NEW ARES TEAM GOES TO WORK<![if !mso]><![endif]>

On Friday, October 31st during the busy Halloween evening, a 21 year old mentally impaired girl, who had the mental capacity of a six year old, walked away from her home in Centralia.  Centralia Police searched the area extensively but were unable to locate the girl.  On Saturday, November 1st, officers conducted another search of the girl's residence and then a three block, house by house search that included yards, out buildings and vehicles without success.

With darkness closing in, the Centralia Amateur Radio Emergency Services Team was activated to perform a mobile search of the entire community.  Eleven team members responded and within two hours had covered every city street and park looking for the girl and had handed out missing person flyers to businesses, churches and individuals they met.

The girl was located on Sunday at a friend's house and was returned home.

Interested in Amateur Radio? Want to become a ham? The Technician class license is the first of the FCC Amateur Radio licenses.

MicroHams will be sponsoring our last no-code Technician class course in 2008 on October 17-19. Classes run 7:00pm-10:00pm Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm Saturday and 11:00am-noon Sunday. The class will cover the entire Element 2 (Technician) question pool.

The course will run $40 and includes a textbook, handouts and the testing fee. The W5YI Technician Class book by Gordon West will be provided including a number of other handouts, even discount coupons for new radios. If you already have a book, the class fee is $20. Testing is also open to anyone for any license class but those not enrolled in the class will need to pay the standard $14 testing fee.

Develop your CW proficiency here! "ON" (the Olympia Amateur Radio Society Net) will meet every Tuesday on 3680 kHz. at 2000 local using 10 WPM CW. N7EIE is the NCS, and will be using some QN signals, but it is a beginner's net for practice.

                                                                                                         SLOW SPEED CW PRACTICE NET

I am the NCS on two Slow Speed Nets. One on Saturday night (local) at 0400 UTC 2100 PDT on 7.046. The other net is on Sunday at 2100 PDT 0400 UTC and it is on 3.5475.. Both of the nets are slow speed , We average about 7 to 12 WPM but will slow down for others if needed. The Nets are sponsored by the 3905 Century Club and they are WAS and Awards nets. The exchange is very simple but it also requires verification from another station not involved in the contact. Contacts made are also good for ARRL Awards. The club web site is www.3905ccn.com. The Club is currently operating CW Nets on 160 through 20M. Any of the nets will slow down for folks who need things slower. I have CC the Club President as well as the 40M Nets Manager. I have also included the file "CWnets101" which is good for beginners on any net. 73
