HELLO West Virginia Amateurs (October 2008)
It seems the month of October was very busy for the amateur radio operator community with repair of antennas, moving and/or raising towers and beams, repair and upgrading of repeaters, amateur radio training classes, VE testing, contesting, DXing, and being active on nets and on-the-air. If I missed any aspect of amateur radio let me know as all have been working to support amateur radio in West Virginia.
Many THANKS to all those who are supporting amateur radio, the NTS Nets or whatever is your fancy, and ARRL in West Virginia. Please consider joining the ARRL to support these activities in West Virginia.
I have not heard much and I am sure that Ken, WA8LLM, ARRL SEC WV is also looking for more actions from the many ARES groups around WV regarding the Simulated Emergency Test (SET) activity. It is from now to the end of December to have an event. Just a reminder of the Cal Basham, W8NR Memorial Award that was established by Hal Turley, W8HC, and is offered to the ARES group with the top score in WV submitted to ARRL. You also need to send information to Ken in your monthly ARES Report. The SET is the best way to see your strengths, weaknesses while building team work and support with other agencies.
Ken Harris, WA8LLM, ARRL Section Emergency Coordinator, West Virginia:
This SEC attended the WV Interoperibity Conference at Camp Dawson on October 26th, 27th, and 28th. I also took and completed the NIMS IS-802 course. I attended the Wood County LEPC Meeting on October 15th. I want to thank those Amateurs who have sent me E-Mails about the WV ARES Bulletins that I send out each week. I will continue to put out a weekly WV bulletin as long as I'm the SEC. I've been writing weekly bulletins for our county and district ARES/RACES groups since 1991, and have enjoyed doing so. If you have an idea for a bulletin let me know. If you want to write the bulletin that would be great. The bulletins are also posted on the Wood County Emergency Communications Website: wc8ec.com. I want to thank those EC's, DEC's, and anyone who sends me some kind of information or report each month. It's doesn't take but a few minutes to tell me what's happening in your county, and it let's the rest of the state know too.
Hal Tate, N8FXH, ARRL Bulletin Manager, West Virginia:
It is with regret, that I announce Hal, N8FXH, has submitted his letter of resignation from the position of ARRL Bulletin Manager, West Virginia. Hal feels that his involvement in church and Lions Club duties have severely restricted his amateur radio activities. As all of us are aware, it seems that communication in amateur radio from ARRL HQ is disseminated in many forms, and Hal has attempted to support these. Hal, a special thank for your support of me and West Virginia amateur radio.
WV AMATEUR RADIO CLUBS -Thanks for updating your ARRL AC Annual reports and WVSARC Club listings on the http://qsl.net/wvsarc site.
