Sorry about the nasty looking format of the Monthly Summary. I lost track of the line width.
Also, don't forget the upcoming Skywarn Reognition Day on-the-air event December 6. The National Weather Service Forecast Offices in Reno, Las Vegas and Elko should all be on the air for this event. This is a very good way to get folks interested in HF operation in a lower stress environment than Field Day or other contests.

PACIFICON 2008
Well this one is now in the history books. Once again it was a great event.
The vendors were swamped with customers, The technical sessions were well attended and the banquet was sold out!
The banquet speaker was Jill Tarter, SETI Director. Her talk described the new radio telescope construction
that is being undertaken in Northern California. She also described all that is involved in the search for
extra-terrestrial intelligence. It was a very interesting presentation.
Two awards were garnered by Nevada Hams at the banquet. Dick Flanagan, K7VC was given an appreciation award
for his service as Nevada Section Manager. The big surprize of the evening was the granting of the Pacific
Division Amateur of the Year Award to Kent Johnson, W7AOR for his achievement in growing the use of IRLP through
the Western Reflector and numerous linked repeaters throughout the State of Nevada. Neither of the award winners
were in attendance so Joe Giraudo, Nevada Section Manager accepted them on their behalf.

MORE MEMBERS-ONLY BENEFITS!
In addition fo the additional items that are available to ARRL members on the wesite, you can now read
archived articles from back issues of QST! I looked this new feature over and WOW! is it neat! I looked at
the January 1942 issue and there were numerous post-Pearl Harbor articles detailing the radio silence imposed
and the very limited operating authorizations afforded to official civil defense stations of the times.
If you are a radio historian, antique radio collector or just like to read, this will give you many hours of enjoyment!
Yet another reason to join the ARRL, The national association for AMATEUR RADIO.

simulate innoculation for a mass pandemic. ARES communications teams provided support both locally and across the
State of Nevada.
Don Carlson, the Nevada Section Emergency Coordinator visited several radio clubs in the Las Vegas area this month.
His visit coincided with the SET exercise so he was removed from his normal comfort zone in Washoe County and got to
observice the Clark County teams in action. He also presented Kent Johnson, W7AOR with his "Amateur of the Year" Award at
the NARRI meeting.
