    SKYWARN Recognition Day
Friday, December 5, 7 pm to Saturday, December 6, 7 pm local time
    [Saturday, December 6, 0000 to 2399 UTC]

Object: For all amateur stations to contact as many National Weather Service Stations as possible on 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6, and 2 meter bands plus the 70 centimeter band. Contacts via repeaters are permitted. SKYWARN Recognition Day serves to celebrate the contributions to public safety made by amateur radio operators during threatening weather.
Exchange: Call sign, signal report, QTH, and a one or two word description of the weather occurring at your site ("sunny", "partly cloudy", "windy", etc.).
Modes: NWS stations will work various modes including SSB, FM, AM, RTTY, CW, and PSK31. While working digital modes, special event stations will append "NWS" to theircall sign (e.g., N0A/NWS).
For more information: http://www.wx1gyx.org or http://hamradio.noaa.gov/

Augusta Amateur Radio Association will be providing communications for the annual Winthrop Merchants Guild Christmas parade on Saturday, December 6 (corrected date).
In addition to the normal voice communications, the AARA will also employ color fast-scan television (ATV) on the 440 MHz band to help coordinate the event. It is believed this will be the first time ATV has been used for a public service event in Maine. The mode has been used for a number of years as part of the communications at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California, on New Years Day.
Anyone wishing to assist with the parade should contact Bill Crowley, K1NIT, at 207-623-9075, or by e-mail at K1NIT@arrl.net.

    EVENT LISTINGS FOR 2009!!!!!

If you are responsible for a hamfest or other event, please make sure to send your listing in as soon as you have the date and other info. All info to: John Goran at: k1jjs@arrl.net.

Does your Public Service Event Need Additional Ham Radio Volunteers??

If your club or group offers communications for Public Service Events and are in need of additional communications volunteers, we'd be pleased to post your event information to the ARRL Maine Section Web Page and have it announced by the PIO's on various Maine nets. The following information is required: event description, date, location, arrival time, sign up deadline and contact information (email/phone) along with any additional requirements. With this information getting out to more of the Ham Radio Community we are hoping all events will have the volunteers needed, and those that do volunteer can schedule in advance. Email to John, k1jjs@arrl.net, Maine Section ARRL PIC
