VICE-DIRECTOR
BALLOTS DUE NOV. 21.
ARRL members in the Kentucky Section should have received your ballot
for the Great Lakes Division vice-director election. GLD Director Jim
Weaver, K8JE, had no opposition and will automatically serve another three-year
term beginning Jan. 1, 2009. The race for Vice-Director has three candidates,
two of which are from Kentucky: Incumbent Vice-Director Gary Johnston,
KI4LA, is being challenged by former Kentucky SM and current Division
Legislative Action Chair John Meyers, NB4K, and Dan Romanchik, KB6NU,
who presently serves as Affiliated Club Coordinator for the Michigan Section.
The deadline for your ballot to arrive at ARRL HQ is noon on Friday, Nov.

NEW HAMS

who passed the exam include: Chris Adae KJ4HPX; Matt Anderson KJ4HPY;
Zach Bowles KJ4HPZ; Michael Brooks KJ4HQA; Shawn Butcher KJ4HQB; Matt
Congelton KJ4HQC; Andrew Eastham KJ4HQD; Maria Garcia KJ4HQE; Patrick

KJ4HQI; Dalton Long KJ4HQJ; Simon Mayle KJ4HQK; Grace Murray KJ4HQL; Chris
Neal KJ4HQM; Josh Roberts KJ4HQN; Matt Trammel KJ4HQO; Charles Weirich
KJ4HQP; Sean Wischer KJ4HQQ; Anthony Breault KJ4HQT; Jesse Mauk KJ4HQU;

to the 23 students, Brad Vickers, KJ4HQR, a walk-in at the Dixie Heights
test session also passed the Technician examination. Please join me in
extending my congratulations to the young men and women at Dixie Heights
who have joined the Amateur Radio fraternity!
WELCOME
NEW EC, DEC. Please join SEC Jim McDonnell, W2LTB and the SM in welcoming
two volunteers who have accepted ARES appointments in the Kentucky Section.
Shelby Ennis, W8WN, has been appointed EC of Hardin County. Shelby brings
with him years of experience in ARES. At a initial Hardin ARES meeting,
Nov. 11th, a group of interested amateurs, including the ECs of Nelson
and LaRue counties discussed topics for future trainings for the group.
Please also welcome Kenny Garrett, KG4HEV, who is the new DEC for KY District
3.
BE A PART
OF THE SOLUTION: VOLUNTEER! I can personally attest to the fact that
it is easier to sit on the sidelines and complain than it is to get active
and take action. The Kentucky Section is packed with talented and creative
Amateurs whose skills are needed across the Commonwealth. Are you active
in ARES? Does your county have an Emergency Coordinator? If not, would
you like to serve in that capacity? Do you have an interest in giving
back to our communities as a volunteer? Contact your county EC, District
Emergency Coordinator or SEC Jim McDonnell,
W2LTB for information on being a communications volunteer.
KY PUBLIC
INFORMATION COORDINATOR NEEDED. I'm seeking a candidate who is willing
to serve as State Public Information Coordinator. This is a section-level
appointment that is responsible for organizing, training, guiding and
coordinating the activities of the Public Information Officers (PIOs)
within the section. The PIC is the PR go-to person for the section, and
helps the media tell the story of Amateur Radio. For a full description
of the appointment, click
here. The PIC also is responsible for the Kentucky Section newsletter
and web site contests. Media experience is a plus, but the desire to "get
out the word" about Amateur Radio is also important. For more details,
contact KY SM, ky4z@arrl.org.
ACTIVITY
REPORTS. Station Activity, Public Service or net reports are due to
me by the 9th of each month. Your help in meeting this deadline is greatly
appreciated in order that the KY Section web site is updated in a timely
manner and the reports are submitted to ARRL HQ. Send your reports to
ky4z@arrl.org.

Note: The reporting section of KYHAM is functional. Please submit
all monthly reports there. EC reports will go to their respective
DECs for totalling. Areas with no DEC will still come to me. This
will make reporting and accountability more streamlined.
http://www.kyham.net/emcomm/reports.html. Reports are due to your
respective DECs by the 5th of the month. DECs need to have their reports
to me by the 10th of the month. Please fill out the reports completely
so
they do not get returned for correction.
Reminder that ARES appointees (OES, EC, DECs) need to file a monthly report
so we can track activities.
