    Lawrence .76 repeater will require sub-audible tone beginning January 2010.
    DCARC president Rob-KA2RZO says intermod from co-located transmitters
    opens up the squelch on the 146.76 repeater causing interference.
    This along with the spring and summer band openings has lead the club
    to go with CTCSS to access the repeater. You will need to set your radio to
    a tone of 88.5 Hz to work thru the station.

    KDØFRP- Dean Speaks is this years recipient of the Joe Addison
    WØPKD Award. Central Kansas ARC bestows this honor upon a club member
    that exemplifies the public service aspect of our hobby.

    WAØOQA's contest shack has a new 4 element tri-band beam.
    Chad NØYK and Dale NØKQX assisted Dick with installing the M2 antenna.

    Neosho Valley Chapter 211 QCWA has a net on Saturday mornings
    at 9am on 3907 open to anyone licensed for that band. Net control rotates and
    is generally located in Chanute. No net on the fourth Saturday
    which is meeting day. Thanks to WA5FLV for the info

    SHARC has 4 members on Packet now. Sam WØOQG is now on
    that mode and looking for a place to install a node in the land of Sand Hills.

    Wheat State Wireless Assn. held their election at the November meeting.
    New officers are President: Greg-KCØYMH, VP: Phil-KCØZNI,
    Treasurer: Curtis-WØYW. Returning as Secretary is Karri-KDØFBE.
    Club meetings are the 2nd Wed in Paola.

    Public Service Honor Roll certificates were presented to
    ABØUY-Debbie and NØZIZ- Dan at the Johnson County A.R.E.S. meeting
    last month. Both Debbie and Dan had surpassed the requirements
    a long time ago. Congratulations to both.

    Johnson County RAC held their annual club auction at the Ensor Farm and
    Museum later than usual. The event included the Marshall Ensor Special Event
    station operated by Santa Fe Trail club members; KCØBS helping with APRS
    set ups and since this was Halloween the day wrapped up with a scary picture show.
    A couple of the features were familiar and for copy right reasons we'll call them
    The Gray Zone. Brian-KCØBS filled in as auctioneer at the last minute when the
    professional had to cancel for medical reasons.
    There was a cornocopia of stuff to bid on. Much of it was
    what might be seen under a table at a hamfest but there were some
    things virtually given away. The caller had to encourage bidding on a Heath scope.
    Some outboard VFOs and tuners went dirt cheap
    and even a good deal on a dual band HT was there, needed a battery.
    Builders would have been in paradise with the small parts and
    array of enclosures available. Let your mind wander.
    The hottest bidding was over a spool of coax and a Zenith Oceanic
    series receiver. If you're in need of a dispatch console get ahold of KCØBS.

    The chicken house, as usual, was the hub of activity. WØDEW brought out his new
    transceiver for field trial and set up a station in one end of the chicken house.

    Maybe the best part was the food. KA2FNK's Son smoked up some
    pulled pork that was served by his Mom for lunch and John-WØBBQ
    brought out his barbecue contest rig (20 ft outfitted trailer)
    for breakfast and dinner. This was a great event and both the clubs involved,
    museum and area hams benefited from this outing.

       ~~~~~~~~~ARES - AMATEUR RADIO EMERGENCY SERVICE REPORT. ~~~~~~~~
    1 Dec 1, 2009 from the desk of K0BXF, ARRL SEC KS Today, I think I shall look at the numbers of Kansas ARES District 5. Why should I, you say. My answer is: I have asked our DEC for District 5 to step forward and give a big helping hand to re-construct District 6. In doing so, that asks for a bit more from each of the EC in District 5 to carry the effort needed for a successful ARES system while WG0Q is doing double duty. At last check there were some 1854 Amateurs listed within District 5, give or take a few SK not yet removed from the files. Zone 5A consisting of Harvey and Sedgwick counties account for 1249 of that 1854 total. NO active EC for Zone 5A as of record at this date. No one reporting any activity of any kind, other than that showing up in the newsletters of clubs within the area. Having to pull up each newsletter and extracting bits and pieces of info to make a report for any particular area of the state is a very time consuming job. Surly there is one or two people that can be appointed by the various clubs to help represent their ARES (etc) activity. It would help both in the ARES activities column as well as the reporting of activity that appears in our state newsletter, "KAR". If you are reading this, we need your assistance. Now for the balance of the District (11 counties) (6 ARES Zones) How many active radio clubs? How many radio amateurs of that 605 listed, are actually active ( broken down by VHF vs HF activity within each county? Information we need to have at our finger tips should the need/reason arise. There has to be one amateur that can and will represent each of those ARES zones each month. Don't know what zone you are residing in?? Try the web page at: http://www.cenkares.org/distks.html. Come on Guys and Gals, let us get Kansas back to the top, when it comes to ham radio representation. Volunteer to do even just a little bit and become that rep for your particular area. For more info ask Ron, KB0DTI our Section Manager, Orlan, W0OYH our Asst Section Manager and Editor of "KAR", or myself, Bob K0BXF ARRL Section Emergency Coordinator for Kansas. ARES activity for the month of October (November report to SM) 113 nets in operation with 789 QNI (check ins) and 32 pieces of traffic handled. Kansas RACES net had 12 QNI, 11 counties ( Riley, Linn, Wyandotte, Leavenworth, Mitchell, Miami, Dickinson, Phillips, Lyon, Montgomery and Shawnee counties represented. Army MARS reported 485 man hours of operation and 235 messages originated. No report from SATERN for some time now. Are there others out there that should be mentioned each month? RSUMMBXF@aol.com can assist. Try it !! We will all like it!! 73 for October hope to see each of you in November 2009 report Bob Summers ARRL SEC KS
